I lost a whole of money in pump and dump stock schemes in mid-90s (hahha). "pump and dump", bubble, or attaching (perceived) value which exists only in the mind of consumer.
In the lemon example, it is superstition, second one hedging the risks thro' painting and last one early example of "bubble"...bottom line is greed or desire for easy money.
